Monster girls have become a popular anime and manga sub-genre over the last couple of years, and when this title started popping up in my recommendations, I decided to give it a look.Interviews with Monster Girls ends up being a very heartwarming story. Lead character Takahashi-sensei seems to be a pretty good guy; he is initially motivated by science and an interest in studying demi-humans (or "demis" as they prefer to be called), but he ends up being a counselor and friend to the demis at his school. The demis themselves are cute and interesting, too. There is Hikari the vampire who, during her interview with Takahashi, dispels some popular myths about her kind; she rather likes garlic and she is sort of curious about what it would be like to take blood from a human, although this causes no real harm to the human, she does not need to do so to survive, and she hasn't really found the "right one" yet for this purpose. Yuki is a yuki-onna (snow-woman) who overheats easily and who is the frequent object of Hikari's attention, as Yuki's body is cool and exposure to sunlight makes Hikari very warm. Kyoko is a dullahan who finds everyday life tricky since she has to carry her head around with her or have someone else do so for her. And, there is the new teacher Sakie who tries to play down the fact that she is a succubus by dressing plainly and avoiding contact with men.The characters are all interesting and likeable, and the humor is quirky and enjoyable. For example, the analogy between Hikari not consuming blood and vegetarianism was pretty funny, as was Kyoko's description of what she does with her head while doing mundane things (eating, bathing). It's definitely worth a look if you'd like a quirky and warm take on the usual slice-of-life school comedy manga.
